Travel agencies typically have agreements or understandings with airlines and hotels all over the world, through which they get the best prices and even after adding a margin, they still sell the service for a price lower than what it would cost if booked directly. However, with the proliferation of online ticketing, travel agencies are redundant for domestic travel but the best deals for international travel are still with them. In addition to airline tickets, travel agencies can provide the best hotels in the world at far cheaper rates than the quoted ones. However, there is a chance that one can be tricked into paying more but this rarely happens with reputed travel agencies and is therefore best to check first before hiring one.
Finally, the increase in tourism has led to creation of tour plans that allow people wishing to travel to one place to go in a group. This will prove cheaper for everyone and moreover, there is also the excitement of traveling in a group of peers. For all the services, travel agencies charge a fee. Usually, this is included in the margin but in some cases a nominal percentage of the total needs to be paid but it is not too much.
